In this place, Renewal Church is a multicultural, non-denominational, Trinitarian community in Barrhaven. Since our first gathering in 2016, brought together through friendship, prayer, and the generous support of churches across Ottawa, we’ve been learning to follow Jesus in the rhythms of everyday life.
Our name points to the vision of Revelation 21: that God is making all things new. We hold to that promise with hope, joining the global Church in confessing that Jesus is Lord. Grateful for the faith passed down through generations, we seek to walk with humility, receiving the wisdom of the broader Church and remaining attentive to what God is doing in this particular place.
We are thankful to be part of the wider Church in Ottawa, a diverse community of congregations seeking to live out Christ’s love in our city. Together, we long to reflect grace and hospitality in every aspect of life, for the good of our neighbourhoods and the glory of God.
We believe God has a vision for the world, and for His Church within it. We believe in the beauty of the Creator God, the dignity and brokenness of humanity, and in joining God in the renewal of all things as God’s life grows in us through Jesus Christ.
What we believe and how we live belong together.
We strive to be a church where the love of God and others is evident, where authenticity and community are pursued, where people of all backgrounds are embraced, where wonder and mystery are celebrated, and where the gospel is proclaimed. We hold a deep conviction to be faithful to God in the life of our city and in our everyday lives. We seek to follow Jesus in ordinary, everyday ways - among our neighbours, in our homes, and in our work.
We hold the historic Christian faith, received and shared by the Church across time, as confessed in the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed, which were formed through ecumenical councils over centuries, long before we were born and which, by God’s grace, will continue to be confessed long after we are gone.
Our beliefs guide how we give our time, energy, and care as a community.
Formation - We seek to be lifelong learners of Jesus, growing to live more fully in his way.
Communion - The table anchors us in the gospel, drawing us again and again to Christ’s death and resurrection, and to the hope of his return.
Participation - We believe every person is called to take part in the life of God’s Kingdom and in the life of the congregation. We are called to be partners, not consumers.
Proximity - To live faithfully, we seek to be present and committed in real communities, attentive to the places and people God has given us.
Listening - We seek to remain attentive to the Holy Spirit, trusting God’s leading even when it calls for patience, risk, and faith.
